The Experiment

Sheila was impressed by the size of the Muldrues’ timeshare and the stylish décor. Where she’d grown up, discussions about things like timeshares and summer homes were non-existent. Now, she was hanging out with black folks who actually lived the type of lifestyle that she’d often read about.

Even Malik was impressed as he carefully examined a huge chess table with porcelain pieces the size of a little boy’s hand. He walked over to a dazzling salt-water aquarium that was built into a wall, marveling at its size. He loved aquariums and had often thought about buying one, but not something this fancy.

“Actually, it hit me up for closer to four grand,” Darnell said.

The floors were all hardwood and the countertops were marble. The living room was adorned with huge pieces of African art and paintings, and the windows stretched from floor to ceiling. Each piece of furniture matched the décor and was perfectly placed throughout. The timeshare looked better than the Batistes’ house.

The women retreated to the guest rooms to change into their bathing suits, while the men stood on the patio and admired the sailboats slowly drifting across the lake.

“Man, this is the life,” Malik said.

“Yeah, it’s nice. Ya’ll need to invest in one.”

“One day, my brotha,” Malik said, laughing. “One day.”

After spending part of the day shopping at local boutiques and enjoying the scenery, the four of them dined at the Deserted Island Bistro. The restaurant sat on the edge of a cliff and offered outdoor dining for a picturesque view of the lake, which they took advantage of.

Darnell raised his glass for a toast. “Here’s to good times.”

“Good times,” everyone said in unison.

As she brought her drink to her mouth to take a sip, Sheila glanced at Darnell. Their eyes

remained fixed on each other for what seemed like minutes. Along with the scent of saltwater and seafood, lust was definitely in the air. She turned and looked out at the water when she felt her nipples getting hard. Sheila suggested that they use the binoculars mounted along the edge of the deck to get a better view of the lake and she jumped at the chance to put some space between herself and Darnell.
